Saigon is the most important commercial centre in southern Vietnam and enjoys high growth rates. As such it sports a number of modern buildings and skyscrapers in its centre which blend with the colonial style buildings of the French period. Unlike in other rapidly growing cities in Asia, fhe number of modern buildings and skyscrapers is however still limited and care has been taken to preserve the city's heritage.
