West of Hoan Kiem lake

To the west of Hoan Kiem lake is an area with old buildings, many of them of the French colonial era, and tree lined boulevards. Here there are many shops, malls and some hotels. St Joseph's cathedral was built between 1883 and 1891 and was the first colonial era building to be completed.
