Construction and development of new areas has been ongoing in Dubai for years and years, practically non-stop, except for a brief interruption due to the financial crisis in 2009. The urban centre of Dubai extends from Deira towards southwest along the coast, with a business district along the central Sheikh Zayed road ("Skyscraper valley").
