Wat Rong Khu, the white temple, is a beatiful Buddhist temple located about 10km southwest of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. It is the cration of Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who wants to merge traditional Thai Buddhist art with contemporary themes and topics.
Construction of the temple began in 1997 and is still going on. The main temple structure is painted white to symbolise the purity of Buddha and is covered with small mirrors. The temple is beautifully decorated, with lots of different motives. Inside the main temple there are murals about contemporary science-fiction themes.
Next to the main temple there is a second temple, completely painted in gold. More buildings are under construction on the compound.
