The Rossio is the popular name for the Dom Pedro IV square, a large rectangular square in the historic Pombaline centre of Lisbon. The square has been the centre of Lisbon since the Middle Ages, where bullfights, celebrations, military parades and executions took place. On the square lies the Dona Maria national theatre, a monument to Dom Pedro, the first ruler of Brazil and a large fountain.
