The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque lies in the Al Azaiba neighbourhood, about 10km northwest of central Muscat. The mosque was built between 1995 and 2001 using 300000 tonnes of Indian sandstone. The mosque has a capacity of 20000 people and is open to non-muslim visitors in the morning between 8 and 11am.
