City centre

The centre of Tromsø is relatively small, extending for a few hundred meters around the harbour. There is no identifiable medieval core and in fact the oldest buildings seem to date back to the 19th century. The most interesting old building is the Lutheran cathedral, a wooden structure completed in 1861. The Nerstranda Senter is a small shopping mall next to the harbour.
