The centre of Oslo is centered around the cathedral and roughly extends between the royal palace to the west, the train station to the east and the Oslo fjord to the south. There is no clearly identifiable medieval historic core with for instance old buildings and cobblestone streets. In fact the oldest buildings seem to date back to the 19th-20th century. On the other hand there are pedestrian areas and public parks and traffic is moderate.
