Welcome! In this photo gallery you'll find a selection of Bagan pictures taken in December 2002. Bagan, also known as Pagan, is one of the most remarkable archaelogical sites in South East Asia. It can be compared with the city of Angkor in Cambodia and the site of Borobudur in Java. In the Bagan plain, a 42 sq km area on the left bank of the Ayeyarwady river, there are 2217 pagodas still standing and another 2000 ruined temples. Most of these temples were built during the 11th and 13th century, when Bagan was the capital of Myanmar.
There are 112 Bagan images on these pages. For clarity and better navigation they have been structured into seven albums. The Bagan temples have been sorted according to the period when they were built (early, medium, late).
