Seribuat archipelago (all images)

The Seribuat archipelago is a group of islands of volcanic origin off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia near Mersing. The biggest and most popular island of the group is Tioman, which lies about 60km away from Mersing and is connected to Mersing by ferries and has its own airport with direct flights to KL and Singapore. Much nearer to the coast, at a distance of only 10-15km, are a number of smaller islands: Pulau Sibu, Tinggi, Besar, Tengah, Hujong, Rawa, Gual, Mensirip, Harimau. Seriburat and Sembilang - to name some of them. Only a few of these islands have Accommodation (Rawa, Besar and Tinggi). The resort on Pulau Sibu closed in 2009, while a new resort is opening on Pulau Tengah. These islands cater to higher-end travellers and can only be reached by chartering a boat.
