Qasr Hallabat

Qasr Hallabat lies on a small hill 40km to the northeast of Amman. It was built on the site of a 2nd century Roman fortress constructed under emperor Caracalla to guard the Azraq road. Qasr Hallabat is not as well preserved as the other Desert Castles, in fact a good part of the structure is in ruins. Qasr Hallabat has a square layout with four square towers, one at each corner. Near the fortress there is a rebuilt Umayyad mosque.
