Trentino-South Tyrol (Trentino-Südtirol in German) is an autonomous region in northern Italy. It consists of two distinct areas, the Italian-speaking Trentino and the largely German-speaking South Tyrol. The region was part of Austria-Hungary until its annexation by Italy in 1919. It is a montainous region with mountains almost 4000 metres high. The main pillars of the economy are tourism and agriculture (lots of vineyards and fruit farms).
