Jammu and Kashmir is a contested Himalayan region between India and Pakistan, sharing borders with India's Himachal Pradesh state, Pakistan and China. It's an autonomous state in India and consists of three divisions: Jammu, the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. The state's summer capital is Srinager, and its winter capital is Jammu. The region's beautiful lakes, fertile valleys and remote snow covered peaks have attracted rulers, pilgrims and travellers over the past centuries. 65% of the population is Islamic and 30% is Hindu.
