Old town

The historic core of Munich is centered around the Marienplatz square. Until the 18th century this area was surrounded by a city wall, which was finally removed starting in 1791, to make space available for the expanding city.Due to the destruction in WW II only a few old buildings are still preserved or have been restaurated.
