The Ile-de-la-Cite is an island in the Seine river in central Paris, where Paris was originally founded in the middle ages. The gothic cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, whose construction started in 1163, is located here together with other ancient buildings. Le Marais is a district of Paris on the right bank of the Seine river north of Paris. The futuristic Centre Georges Pompidou, built 1971-77, is located here. It houses a number of museums and a library.
