The Loire river valley is the region around the river Loire in France, located about 200km south of Paris and extending for about 300-400km from east to west. It is considered the birthplace of the French language. The Loire valley contains historic towns and villages, great architectural monuments, many world-famous castles and many wineries. In the year 2000 UNESCO added the central part of the Loire river valley between Maine and Sully-sur-Loire to its list of World Heritage Sites.
