The Mountain of the Dead or Gebel al-Mawta is a hill near the village of Siwa which is honeycombed with many tombs from the the Ptolemaic and Roman periods (3rd century BC - 2nd century AD). Most tombs have been heavily damaged, but a few are in a good state and some have wall paintings
