Lake Nasser was created when the Assuan High Dam was completed in southern Egypt in 1970. The lake extends for 550km and is 35km wide at its widest point, with a total storage capacity of 132 kmĀ³. Every evening after sunset there is a sound and light show at the Abu Simbel temple complex. Abu Simbel is a very small city in southern Egypt, 40km northeast of the Sudanese border.
