Nyhavn ("new harbour" in Danish) is a picturesque tourist hotspot consisting of a canal bordered by colourful houses with restaurants and cafes everywhere. The Nyhavn canal was constructed by king Christian V between 1670 and 1673 as a gateway from the sea to the old inner city at Kongens Nytorv, where ships handled cargo and fishermens' catch.
