Croatia is a small country of 56594 km² in southern central Europe, with a very long coastline with over 1000 islands. The south and the west of Croatia are mostly mountainous, while the north at the east consist mainly of plains.
Croatia emerged as an independent state from the breakdown of former Yugoslavia in 1991. It has a long and rich history spanning from prehistoric times until modern times.
Croatia has a well-developed economy with a GDP at 61% of the EU average. Due to its long and varied coastline, its large number of islands, its interesting geography and rich cultural heritage Croatia attracts a large number of tourists each year. The capital of Croatia is Zagreb.
How to get to Croatia
Croatia is well connected with the European motorway and railway networks and can easily be reached by plane as well. The main airport is in Zagreb.
