People in Urumqi

Urumqi is home to a large ethnic minority known as the Uighurs (also spelled as Uyghurs or Uygurs). These are Turkic people who speak a language closely related to Turkish and are Muslim. Many Uighurs have fair skin and fair hair and are racially distinct from the Han Chinese.
