Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China. It's the 4th most populous city in China and a major political and economic centre. The history of Chengdu dates back to the 4th century BC, when the king of the ancient Shu moved his capital to the city's current location. Throughout thousands of years the city has maintained its original name and its role as the capital and political, commercial and military centre of the Sichuan area. Today the city is on a fast development and modernisation path. The Chengdu gallery contains photos of downtown Chengdu and of the Wenshu Buddhist temple.
