The Bibi-Heybat mosque was rebuilt in the 1990s on the site of a former 13th century mosque which was destroyed during the Soviet period in 1936. It was reconstructed based on photographs and records of the old mosque. It's a relatively small mosque with a couple of beautifully decorated prayer halls. In one there is a brass cage containing a tomb. It is located along the coast, overlooking the South Bay, about 10km south of Baku.
