The Yarra valley is half an hour drive to the east of Melbourne and is home to about 30 of the best wineries in Victoria. The name derives from the Yarra river which originates 90 km east of Melbourne and flows into Port Phillip bay. The valley consists of relatively plain terrain, with a climate well suited for the growth of vinegrapes. The Yarra valley is a popular tourist destination mainly due to the availability good food and wine.
