Perhentian
Photo Gallery
Between 1999 and 2000 I've been
a total of four times in Perhentian island:
- September 29th - October 1st, 1999,
- October 5th - 8th, 1999,
- March 13th - 17th, 2000 and
- April 20th - 23rd, 2000.
I used to stay on Perhentian
Besar,
the bigger of the two islands, on the beach facing Perhentian Kecil
(the
small island). The place where I stayed, IBI's, is basic but adequate
(as
well as cheap at 25 RM for a bungalow in September 1999). What
follows below are some
excerpts
of the email exchange with my fiancee (now my wife) while I was in
Perhentian.
29.09.99,
Wednesday
I flew to Kuala Terengganu this
morning
and was planning to catch the boat to Redang. But then I went to Pulau
Perhentian Besar, because all accomodation on Redang is in the 100+ RM
price range (but then I'm going to pay 35+35=70 RM additional taxi
expenses,
so everything is relative...). Still Perhentian is very nice, really
beautiful.
30.09.99,
Thursday
Perhentian is the most beautiful
island where I have ever been and it has the most beautiful beaches
I've ever seen. Today I did some snorkeling in
the narrow
strait which separates the two islands (Perhentian Besar and
Perhentian
Kecil). There is a somehow strong current there. On the ground of the
sea
I found sea turtles. I saw a total of four sea turtles - two were
eating
the algae. I even touched once (but that's forbidden...). Maybe I'll go
back to the Perhentians.
05.10.99,
Tuesday
Leaving KL in the morning I
arrived
today at 14:30 on Perhentian and went again to the same place. It's
very
cheap! I did some climbing on the cliffs, some swimming and some
volleyball.
The weather is great, sun is shining. This evening is very quiet on
Perhentian.
Not so many tourists around.
06.10.99,
Wednesday
Today again we had sunshine all day
long on Perhentian. On Friday I have a late flight
back
to KL. My plane leaves at 7:45pm from Kota Bharu, will arrive in KLIA
at
8:30pm.
So I'll probably be in downtown KL by 10:30pm (if not later).
13.03.00,
Monday (after the monsoon season)
My Digi phone does not work here. The monsoon washed away a big
chunk
of beach... in addition to this, people are building new bungalows, so
the beach is no longer so nice.
