In the centre of Saigon are many French style tree lined avenues, probably set up during the colonial period. The traffic on the streets is chaotic, with motorbikes and cars coming from all directions and at different speeds. There is an especially large number of motorbikes, as these are the primary means of transport in Vietnam. Crossing the streets takes some effort, although it would suffice to walk slowly at a constant speed and direction, as the cars and motorbikes will then manage to avoid hitting you.
