The Longshan temple was built in 1738 by Han settlers from Fujian (China). It served as place of worship and gathering for the Chinese settlers and went through numerous destructions by earthquakes and fires, but was always rebuilt. Today it belongs to the core architectural heritage of Taiwan. The Temple worships a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist, and local deities such as the Matsu.
