The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (Guólì Zhōngzhèng Jìniàntáng) was inaugurated in 1980, five years after the death of the founder and first president of Taiwan, Chiang Kai Shek. The memorial consists of a huge open space with a white and blue mausoleum containing a bronze statue of Chiang Kai Shek, a big white and blue gate and two buildings, the National theatre and the National concert hall.
