Geneva is home to the European headquarters of the United Nations Organisation. These are located northeast of the city centre on Place de Nations near the Ariana park. Geneva became the seat of the League of Nations in 1919; after WW II the European UN headquarters were installed there. The UN complex, which can be visited with a tour, comprises the UN office and the Nations building (Palais des Nations).
