Around the Vistula River

Krakow lies along the Vistula river, the longest and most important river in Poland. Krakow was initially settled during the Stone Age on the Wawel, a hill overlooking the Vistula river. Later the city expanded to the north of the Wavel hill, where the Wawel castle and cathedral were built.
