The Al Dhahirah region in Oman is an arid, semidesertic region extending from the Hajar mountains until the dunes of Rub al Khali, the empty quarter. In the bronze age copper was mined in the mountains around Ibri and exported to the Middle East and South Asia. From a touristic perspective the highlights of this region are the necropolis of Bat and Al Ayn (known for its "beehive" tombs), which together are a UNESCO world heritage site.
