Morocco is a constitutional monarchy in northwestern Africa with a long atlantic coastline which reaches past the Strait of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean Sea. Morocco is crossed in the middle by the Atlas mountain range with peaks over 4000 metres high. The north of the country enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate, while the south is desertic. Its capital is Rabat and the official language is Arabic. The population of Morocco consists of Berbers who make up 70% of the population and ethnic Arabs. The economy is driven mainly by mining, tourism and money sent from Moroccans living abroad.
