Merang is a small city on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, about 40km to the north of Kuala Terengganu at the mouth of the Merang river. There are some nice sandy beaches in and around Merang with a number of resorts, but the main reason for people to come to Merang is to take the boats to the nearby islands of
Redang and
Lang Tengah, both of which have breathtaking white coral sand beaches and crystal clear seawater. To get to these islands it is usually necessary to book in advance, although it is possible to access Redang without pre-booking.
