220m above the elevation of central Petra and a 30-60 minutes walk from it lies the Monastery (ad-Dayr or El Deir in Arabic), Petra's most impressive monument. The Monastery is a temple carved into the mountain with a very impressive facade. In the Monastery there is a square empty chamber. From the Monastery it's a short walk to three viewpoints near it, from which there is a view of the surrounding area. Impressive scenery with deep gorges and canyons.
