The Heian Shinto shrine is a colourful red and green shrine in Kyoto. It is one of the biggest and newest shrines of Kyoto, having been built in 1895 to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the establishment of Heian-kyo (as Kyoto was known in the past). The shrine surrounds a large rectangular square where frequently Japanese visitors come for photo shoots wearing traditional Japanese clothes. Adjacent to the shrine there is a Japanese garden with a pictoresque pond.
