The Milan cathedral, known as Duomo di Milano in Italian, is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. The ground plan is of a nave with five aisles, crossed by a transept and then followed by choir and apsis. The nave is about 45 meters high. The roof of the cathedral sports a forest of openwork pinnacles and spires, set upon delicate flying buttresses. Construction of the cathedral started in 1386 and was only completed in 1965, when the last gate was completed.
