The walls which completely surround the old city of Jerusalem were erected in the 16th century under Suleiman the Magnificent. It is possible to walk on the walls by paying a small fee. From the walls there is a good view of the old city and the surrounding areas. Along the walls are a number of gates, for instance the Jaffa gate and the Damascus gate.
