The small city of Abarqu lies on the road connecting Shiraz with Yazd, 200 km southwest of Yazd. Abarqu was a very prosperous city during the 11th and 15th, when it was a resting station along the road between Shiraz and Yazd. The city has a number of attractions including the remains of a huge ice house, a mosque and a huge, 4000 years old cypress tree ("Sarv-e-Abarghood"), the eldest in Iran
