Paros is a Greek island the Cyclades island group in the central Aegean Sea, located between Antiparos and Naxos about 160km to the southeast of Athens. The island has an area of 165 kmē and the max. elevation is 704m. Historically, Paros was known for its fine white marble (marble quarries in Marathi), which gave rise to the term "Parian" to describe marble or china of similar qualities. Paros has been settled since prehistoric times and is nowadays a primary tourist attraction.
