With an area of 429 kmē Naxos is largest island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean. It is located 180 km to the southeast of Athens, not far away from Paros island. Naxos measures 23km from east to west and 32km from north to south. The main villages are Filoti, Apiranthos, Vivlos, Agios Arsenios, Koronos and Glinado. According to Greek mythology the young Zeus was raised in a cave on Mt. Zas. Naxos has been settled since since prehistoric times and has a number of ruins of ancient Greece of which the temple of Demeter is the most famous one. Today Naxos is a primary tourist attraction.
