Milos (also known as Melos) is a Greek island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean, 150 km south of Athens. Milos is famous as the place where the statue of Venus was found. The island has the shape of a horseshoe, with an area of 160 km². Its highest elevation is 748m. Milos is of volcanic origin and has a substantial mining industry due to the richness in natural resources. The island has been settled since 5000 BC. There are about 70 beaches, of which Sarakiniko beach is the most scenic one.
