Castle Herrenchiemsee lies on the Herren island in lake Chiemsee in southeast Bavaria. It was built by King Ludwig II between 1878 and 1886 and was modeled after the Louis XIV palace in Versailles. The castle is surrounded by a huge park with statues, channels and fountains.
