Half-timbered houses (in German: Fachwerkhaus) have exposed wood framings utilising heavy timbers jointed via pegged mortise and tenon joints. The spaces between the wooden timbers are filled with plaster, brick, or stone. In the historical centre of Bamberg there are several of such houses.
