The Roman Catholic Bamberg cathedral of St. Peter and St. George lies on a hill overlooking Bamberg and is its most significant landmark. The cathedral is a late Romanesque building with four imposing towers. Initially built in 1012 by emperor Henry II it was destroyed two times by a fire. The current structure dates back to 1237.
