Dowtown Lyon lies between the Rhone and Saone rivers and consists of beautiful 19th century and earlier buildings. Rue de la Republique connects the Bellecour and Terreaux squares and has to a large extent been converted to a pedestrian area with shops, department stores, restaurants and cafes. The area is clean and well-maintained and is also known as Presqu'île.
