At an altitude of 4800m a.s.l. the Khunjerab pass linking China with Pakistan is the highest paved border crossing in the world and the highest point of the Karakoram highway. On the Chinese side the border crossing is guarded by the Chinese military. Around the Khunjerab pass lies the Khunjerab national park, an extensive national park, one of the highest altitude parks in the world.
