Kashgar to Karakul lake
Starting from Kashgar the Karakoram highway passes initially through the plains of the Tarim basin where the village of Upal lies. It then enters the Pamir mountain range through the Ghez river canyon. Before reaching the Karakul lake the highway passes by the Shashan sand mountain with its lake.
