Guangdong is the province in southern China surrounding Hong Kong. Due to its proximity to Hong Kong, Guangdong has enjoyed an unprecedented level of development over the past 30 years, becoming the most prosperous province of China. The local dialect in Guangdong is called 'Cantonese', from the western name of Guangzhou (Canton).
