Around the Liberation Monument Square

The area around the Liberation Monument, a column known as Jiefangbei in Chinese built in 1945 to celebrate the end of China's war with Japan, is a pedestrian area full of skyscrapers and modern buildings. This is the fashionable centre of Chongqing, where there are many elegant shops and shopping malls selling western branded goods and office buildings.
