The Sydney Opera House, situated on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, is the most famous landmark of the city. It is based on an expressionist modern design, with a series of large spherical concrete shells forming the roofs of the structure. The building was conceived and designed in the 1950s by Jørn Utzon, a Danish architect. It was completed in 1973, 10 years later than originally planned. The Opera House has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 2007.
